Most of us have an Euro Cylinder lock fitted to our external doors. However, not all euro cylinders are burglar resistant and approved by the Police and insurance companies.

BS 3621 is a well-known lock standard established by British Standards Institute (BSI) for burglar-resistant locks which are professionally tested and certified to be highly resistant against being picked or forced apart. BS 3621 standard locks are commonly installed on front and back doors of both domestic and commercial properties.

Does your lock meet the BS 3621 standard?

Typical High Security Lock Features include the lock being: anti-snap, anti-bump, anti-drill and marked with a Kite Mark. While buying your property insurance, avoid claiming you have Kite Mark certified locks if you don’t. It will make your claim invalid in case you have a burglary.

If you’re not sure if you have BS 3621standard locks, there are two simple ways to check it:

  • Look for a Kite Mark on your lock
  • Look for a British Standard Number on your lock
